I went to Sephora two days ago, to buy a gift for a friend and to buy some eye makeup remover, and then I discovered the most devastating thing.
They are closing.
And apparently, people have known for a while, because everything good has sold out. :((

I remember going to Paris as a teenager, falling absolutely in love with Sephora on the Champs-Elysées. They sold all these cool and handy 'emergency' products, like 'Stop the Spot', an anti blemish gel which absolutely helped me during my teenage years (and long after that. haha). And then there was 'I Will Survive' which gave you a fresh faced look. And I just loooooved their creams and hair masks and brushes and
WATERPROOF EYE MAKE UP REMOVER. Everything smelled so nice and fresh.
And I loved that everything came with a paper bag - even small products, as I was used to only getting plastic bags everywhere here in the NL. It made you feel fancy.

Oh and the makeup.... Makeup that hadn´t been introduced to the NL yet.. Like
Nars, Bobbi Brown, Kat von D, Urban Decay, Illamasqua.. So whenever I went to France, or Spain or the US or whatevs, I went on this huuuge shopping spree at Sephora, hehe.
I love the Sephora in New York at Times Square, because it´s open until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Yeah, it´s chaotic and messy, but hey, you never know when you want to go to a party and you've ran out of mascara or perfume or something!!

So when they FINALLY opened here back in 2008 (or was it 2009?), I was happy as a clam. No more 'noooo, I finished my tonic so now I have to go to Paris again' or 'noooo, I have a break out and I don't have Stop the Spot so now I have to go to Paris again' ;). Okay, so they disappointingly never actually sold Illamasqua or Kat von D or Nars or whatever. And yes, they eventually stopped selling all those handy Sephora emergency products, but they did have Urban Decay. And an excellent waterproof eye makeup remover. Which was good enough for me.
And now they're closing.
And now they're closing.
Staff told me Sephora wants to focus on other countries. And they were pretty
disappointed as well, because yeah, they're the ones losing their jobs.
And yeah I know I know, there are worse things in life than a Sephora closing. But still. I am very sad.

On the other hand - Marks & Spencer opened in Amsterdam yesterday (after leaving
the NL about 10 years ago)! So all is not bad (hellooooo cookies!). And now I have an extra reason to go to Paris more often.
So. Paris anyone?
