Last weekend was Dutch Heritage Weekend (which I blogged about on my new website!!!!!) and on Sunday we did Amsterdam. We saw a lot of pretty buildings and the weather was surprisingly good (on Saturday... not so much). At the end of the day we visited the Dominicus church on the Spuistraat and after that, we were feeling quite hungry. So we walked back to number 122, where we saw an Italian restaurant on the way over to the Dominicus church.
Mangia Da Me is a new little restaurant (the place used to be home to Barista, a critically acclaimed restaurant that focused more on cocktails and coffee, I don't quite know what happened there) - well, a trattoria to be precise.
That means they don't have a menu, but the waiter tells you all about today's specials. The waiter told us we had a 'few' options, but for each 'category' (meat, fish, veg) they had like 3 or 4 options from different regions in Italy, so they have a pretty extensive menu if you ask me! They had everything from lobster and venison to beef and salmon.

Started off with bread (made with beer) and olive oil and a wonderful and thick balsamic vinegar, and thyme and sea salt. It looks simple, but it was really nice.
The waiter recommended we'd have this. It was unbelievably good. It's a burrata, which is a fresh cheese, usually made from buffalo mozzarella and cream. If I understood correctly, this one was made with goat's milk and sheep's milk.
It was to die for. I still think about this burrata regularly.

We had pappardelle and venison, ricotta and spinach tortellini, spaghetti and beef and.... gnocchi and salmon.
Everything was delicious, absolutely delicious... But that gnocchi was something else I tell you! It was SO good. I was so jealous (I'm usually jealous of everything my boyfriend orders, he's a good orderer), even though my spaghetti was very very good as well (just cooked al dente, rich tomato flavours, ah...).
Even though we had enough to eat by now... We couldn't resist having some dessert!

My boyfriend had scroppino (vodka, lemon ice cream and prosecco), which was freshly made at the table.
It was so good. Tangy and wonderfully alcoholic :D

Tiramisu... Also very good. Firm, thick, rich, creamy. Ahhh.
And my panna cotta. The strawberry sauce was a tad too sweet for me (if I have to be critical ;)) but the panna cotta was very good.
And to top it all off... HOMEMADE ice cold limoncello. Oh my word.
This is absolutely one of the best Italian meals (if not the best!) I've ever had here in the NL. The food is SO good and authentic. The waiters are incredibly friendly. And in the front of the trattoria, Italian men are engaged in animated conversation. It really feels a bit like Italy. Which is lovely.
So. If you're ever in Amsterdam and craving a nice, warm authentic Italian meal, go to Mangia Da Me!!!
