On Sunday we had tickets to the Yankee game! I obviously was still sick, so like in Washington, I took as many ibuprofen as allowed, sucked it up, and went. The ride over there was so bad haha, someone had puked in our train car and there were so many people.. I was miserable! But it was soooo worth it in the end :D
I usually have no interest in watching sports unless it's the World Cup or European Cup of football (soccer?) and the NL are playing (yay for them for coming so far this last world cup!). But when I found out the Yankees were playing against the Red Sox in the new Yankee stadium while we were in New York I thought it would be a really cool experience. A baseball game is such a quintessentially American event (an American football game is maybe slightly more American), we didn't want to miss out. Besides, it was the Yankees vs Red Sox! They even have a Wikipedia page on the Yankees vs Red Sox rivalry!

We were all the way up in the bleachers (though we didn't have the worst seats available!), but the new stadium is well designed and we could see everything very well.
Decided to blend in and buy some caps and a foam finger just to be safe and let everyone know we were tourists ;)
It was so great being there. It really was so American, like you would know from tv shows and movies. I mean, before they start the game, a veteran sings the national anthem. Everyone takes off their caps and places it solemnly on their hearts. Everyone sings along.
The moment the Red Sox players come out on the field, everyone gets really into it and starts booing. I might have booed along with them :'D.
Then one minute an Iraq veteran and his family also come out on the field and everyone sings a song to honour them, the next minute the whole stadium is doing the YMCA (including the ground crew?). Would that even happen here in the NL?

Was looking forward to seeing Derek Jeter play (it's his last season) but he had some injury. LAME.
Yes. People were really getting proposed to on the big screen. This happened several times during the game! I kept thinking of that Friends episode where Mike is trying to propose to Phoebe at a basketball game and Phoebe's all like laaame, so tacky and impersonal!
Bored between innings? Not to worry, baseball players tell jokes to keep you entertained!
What do you call cheese that isn't yours? Nacho cheese!
And what is a pirate's favourite letter? [everyone starts making arrrr noises] You'd think the R right? But it's actually the C...
Hahaha.

A lot of people around us had hot dogs from Nathan's, so obviously we started craving one as well. We loved the hot dogs when we went to Nathan's on Coney Island the last time we were in NY. They weren't so good this time though. Paul also got us some impulse cheese fries as they looked good (they weren't). Those fries were drowning in cheese! Oh well. At least we got to take home a Yankees cup :D
We didn't stay for the last inning (I mean, a baseball game takes a really long time :O), but the Yanks won 3-2. :D
If you're ever in the States and the major league is on, I would totally reccommend getting tickets! Our tickets were like 35 dollars each, so really not that expensive for an unforgettable all-american experience!
