An evening in DC: Capitol Hill

When we arrived in Washington, I immediately couldn't get over how gorgeous it was. I mean, I thought Philadelphia was pretty, but Philly got nothin' on DC! Everything seemed so pristine and all the buildings so stately (like you would expect from the capital city).
Our hotel was located in the neighbourhood Capitol Hill, so we decided to just walk from the train station. Great decision, the capitol was so beautiful with the sunset! Also, there were almost no people around.

Saw these blossoming trees on the way over to the capitol. I was so happy to see some blossom already!

Don't you just love the symmetry here?

From our hotel it was also a short walk to 8th Street - where all the restaurants are. There's a great vibe over there, lots of people and lots of seating outside (the Dutch would definitely call it gezellig). We felt like some steak frites, so we opted for Medium Rare!

They have a set menu. For just $19,50 (and like everywhere in the US, excl taxes and tips), you get some bread, salad and two servings of steak with Medium Rare's special sauce, the waitress explained. I thought okay great, one serving for me, one serving for my boyfriend.

Then we saw waiters, refilling other people's steak and fries. It dawned on us we each got two servings of steak! So I didn't finish all my fries (even though they were really good) in anticipation of more meat ;D Ahh, America. I find drink refills a complete novelty, let alone steak refills!

Sorry for the crappy pictures, they were taken with my phone. And yes, that is a pot of tea with my dinner.

The food was really good, even the salad (as plain as it looks)! Especially when you consider the price. For 20 bucks I would've been satisfied with only one serving of steak... ;)

It was a lovely evening, even if I suddenly wasn't feeling so well...
